A friend of mine joked a few years ago that 25 years from now, the only job left for humans might be polishing robots.
And consulting ("You missed a spot"). Looks like maybe I've got a head start.
I'm a 20-sumptin' Swedish-born, Jersey raised, Manhattan working, Brooklyn living
computer worker, music player and media junkie who figured a while back I'd put up
one of these here sites just to vent and keep a record of the weird things
that filter through my life.
Bored? Say hi.
Hey! What's that? Oh yeah I know it's been over a month since I posted. Pretty embarassing huh? I keep meaning to but then ya know, you're out there doing stuff and lots of interesting shit happens and then you figure "okay, one big post" kind of just to catch things up. And then you can start writing about inane little things again. But that one big post never quite seems to happen.
So no big catchup here (things are quite good here though, thanks for asking). Instead you're getting this post which contains this silly little meme-game I saw on defectiveyeti the other day. Basically involves seeing which site you visited last of every single letter. It makes sense if you try it, I swear.
A is for audioscrobbler.com/user/robotpolisher/ - the wonderfully weird thing that tracks your listening habits. Well in this case my listening habits at work. What sucks slightly is that I managed to leave my "top stuff" playlist playing on repeat all weekend at the office (oops) so hey, it's a little unbalanced. But still not a horrible picture.
B is for blingkong.com/blog.cfm - I thought it'd be fun to add a blog to the bling kong site a while back and honestly it's turned out pretty good for the most part. Mostly I'm just amused by what happens when you give brad a forum to rant.
C is for chase.com/ - Money woes have been a pretty persistant feature of my life of late so I've found myself at my bank's website checking (occasionally negative) balances and sending off checks and fun things like that. But things are looking up marginally (I hope) and I guess the rest of this year is going to be all about climbing my way out of stupidly accumulated debt. Would be pretty sweet if it was all about going on trips and buying myself cool shit, but I'll have to save up those temptations for some future point in my life. It's character building, I'm told.
D is for [a client's website so we'll skip that one]
E is for en.wikipedia.org/ - Considering the kind of information junkie I am, I find flipping around on wikipedia almost unhealthily enjoyable. I've yet to work up the cajones to contribute anything to it though.
F is for flickr.com/photos/lintbrush/ - The ancient digital camera I've got at the moment takes pictures on par with the built in cameras most celphones, but for all that I've kind of rediscovered a love of taking pictures of random shit. And well speaking of cameraphones, I've been taking tons of pictures with that little toy as well. And because I'm a nice guy, I've decided to share the fruits of my labors with the world. I don't think I'm revolutionizing the photographic arts, but hey it's fun and some of the come out pretty okay I think. Now one of these days I'll get around to buying myself a new camera (see C). Oh and starting the flickr group that's just pictures of deli cats. Who's with me?
G is for google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official - this is firefox's default page. Considering I spend most of my day staring at a fucking monitor doing internet related boolsheet, having a browser that's infinitelly configurable, speedy, trimmed down, logical and a joy to use has actually had a astonishingly positive impact on my life, as geeky as that sounds.
H is for hopstop.com/ - it seemed like such an interesting idea, but the subway directions are about as accurate as the ones I used to give to tourists when I first moved to nyu, just happy that someone was asking me for directions...
K is for kraftwerk.technopop.com.br/pictures_90years.php - Being, as she is, the shit, one of the myriad cool presents Jess got me for my birthday (oh right forgot to mention that bit) was an ebayed assortment of photos originally taken to run with a Swedish magazine's articles on personal-obsession-band Kraftwerk back in the early 90's. Admittedly I've seen way the hell too many pics of the band, but i'd never seen these ones and just to check if they were part of the sort of generally available pool of pictures from the 90's I checked out this pretty exhaustive site. The pics were nowhere to be found so who knows, maybe they can be used for some geek currency.
L is for last.fm/user/robotpolisher/ - Companion site to audioscrobbler, this site creates your own streaming radio station based on things you listen (or if you're a subscriber like me, a station of just the stuff you HAVE listened to). Which is really pretty damned cool and especially usefull for when you're cleaning up around the place and just want a radio station of stuff you know you'll love.
N is for njtransit.com/ - Just went out to the jerz with Jess to meet the folks for the first time the other day, which went rather smashingly I think.
Q is for, well nothing. nothing came up when I hit q... which is odd. Any recommendations?
R is for rottentomatoes.com/ - Was looking all week to see when the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy reviews were pouring in. sigh...
S is for sitemeter.com/default.asp?action=stats&site=s14robotplisher - being incredibly narcissistic, even though I can't be bothered to post to this thing for upwards of a month at a go, I'll still check the stats every once in a while just to see who's clicking in. I think i've concluded that at least 14 people a day check this thing even if I do nothing with it. Which is kind of nice at least.
V is for vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_129568.htm - One of our fucking servers got attacked (not by this exploit but something else) the other day. Which was truly a bitch.
W is for waxy.org/links/ - wonderful site for interesting link fodder.
X is for xbox-scene.com/articles/svideo-spdif.php - Jeru's my new hero for installing himself a video projector that has now turned his already awesome room in this already amazing apartment into a full on movie theater. Well more or less, but close enough for me to feel painfully jealous. I brought over the xbox the other night and jesus christ. we figured out that to do things up properly though we'd need this cable.
Z is for zzounds.com/prodsearch?cat=3803&cat2=3552&ob=pop&ps=20&p=2 - the bass amp I use in bling kong to monitor the silly little toy that I play drums through blew a speaker at practice last week. This saddens me since the amp's been through hell with any number of bands (first seeing service back in the days of Heft). So I was looking for a replacement speaker. 'Cuase I've got the money lying around to deal with that.
So there you have it. I'm off to my house now to spend a night of cleaning up and rocking out maybe if you're real lucky you'll get an mp3 of something tomorrow. Maybe if you're even luckier, I'll start posting regularly now. But let's not hold our collective breath, shall we? posted by Robotpolisher 9:32 PM ::
