And of course it being May Day, my news radar's been on high alert all day for all the kinds of leftist hoo hah that goes on in the rest of the world where people holding such opinions constitute something like a majority rather than a shadowy threat to "unity". So besides the over a million strong protests today in France against right-wing pidgeon from outer space Jean-Marie La Pen, reading about the may day rallies in my home country gave me a bizarre feeling maybe I'm living in the wrong country. Not that I neccessarily agree with everything they have to say, but just the fact that it's a country where people over 30 (and elected ones at that !) are taking to the streets and talking about economic justice and world politics and the rest, I dunno, it kinda makes me feel stifled by the boundries of what's considered "rational" political discourse in this country.
All the same, my favorite May Day anecdote of all time would most certainly have to be that of a friend of mine who was working at JP Morgan here in New York a year or two ago and received a company wide memo advising all employees to avoid the main entrances to the building to avoid any violence from a predicted group of violent "anarchist protestors". The image of this particular friend of mine in his company-standard monkey suit taking on a bunch of black clad teenagers w/ halfbricksinsocks still give me a dry chuckle. Well off to brookland to delve further into the mysteries of midi and try to make some happy noise. posted by Robotpolisher 2:37 PM :: Comments:
